Cancer Council SA

Cancer Council SA

Cancer Council SA was established in 1928 as the Anti-Cancer Foundation of the Universities of South Australia, when a substantial bequest was made to the Adelaide University for cancer research, treatment and public education.

Wisely, this bequest was invested with a goal for dividends to cover the running costs of the Foundation.  While much has changed over the last 80 years, with the introduction of critical prevention and support campaigns, (including now running three motels/lodges for cancer patients), Cancer Council SA maintains an investment base to help offset running costs.  This investment base maximises the impact your donations will have in the fight to beat cancer in South Australia.

As Cancer Council SA is community based and receives no direct funding from the Government. Your support is needed to enable Cancer Council SA to continue to invest in vital research to find new pathways to prevent and treat cancer and invest in prevention and early detection campaigns.

Progress is being made. We know how to prevent up to 50% of all cancers, through making simple lifestyle choices and screening. Advances in early detection and treatment mean that around 60% of people survive cancer, and for those where a cure isn’t possible, quality of life can be greatly enhanced.

As the state’s most trusted independent, cancer-related organisation, Cancer Council SA is uniquely placed as a resource for action, a voice for change and a stalwart champion to continue leading the fight against cancer.

Nobody chooses cancer, but we can make a choice to help!
